EGYPT- over 4000 years of history

The country is located in Northern Africa and is bordered by Sudan in the south, Libya in the west, and Israel in the east.

The Country is one of the most populous countries in Africa and has about 77 million people. Most of these people live close to the Nile in order for them to survive.

Egypt's climate is warm year round and in the summer can average temperatures at over 100 degrees.

Cairo- rains once or twice yearly.  Aswan- rains once every 8-10 years.

 Ancient Egyptian history dates back to 2920BC and consisted of 31 dynasties.

The four major cities in Egypt are Alexandria (on the Mediterranean), Cairo (capital) in the north, Luxor (middle), and Aswan (which is the most southern Egyptian city.)

  • The Nile River runs through Egypt.  It starts in the north of Egypt at the Nile Delta (near the Egyptian city of Alexandria) and ends at the Aswan dam in the south where the nile turns into Lake Nasser. 
  • Lake Nasser is located in the very south of Egypt and in the north of Sudan.
  • Lake Nasser is located in Nubia.
  • Along the coast of Lake Nasser lies many significant and ancient temples and monuments, most notably Abu Simbel.
  • Nubia is a vast area that begins south of Aswan and ends at the convergence of the white Nile and the Blue Nile, where the current capital of Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, now stands.  This region extends for 3,300 miles and has an extreme desert climate.
  • Egypt contains some of the most impressive and awe-inspiring monuments in the world.
